Emily Duffy
Emily Kate Chatman Duffy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1957 and has lived in California since the age of five. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley in Fine Art, (1993) she was a teaching assistant for ceramic sculptor Richard Shaw. She worked in the fashion industry for thirteen years and has a degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institution of Design and Merchandising (1982.)
Since 1993, Duffy's work has been featured in galleries and exhibitions throughout the West Coast and Canada: including: Atelier 31 in Seattle, Washington, The San Jose Museum, San Jose, California, Juste Pour Rire Festival, Montreal Quebec, Canada, The Petersen Museum, Los Angeles, California, The Triton Gallery, Santa Clara, California, SOMART Gallery, San Francisco, California, Pro Arts Gallery, Oakland, California, The Richmond Art Center, Richmond, California, and SoFo2 Gallery, Santa Rosa, California. Additionally Duffy's BraBall sculpture (an eighteen-hundred-pound ball of brassieres) is part of the American Visionary Art Museum's permanent collection in Baltimore, Maryland and her MondrianMobile is owned by ArtCar World in Douglas, Arizona.
Duffy's artwork has been reviewed and/or published nationally and internationally in newspapers and magazines including: The San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Times, Ms. Magazine, Der Spiegel, USA Today, La Presse, People Magazine, The Chicago Daily Herald, The Oakland Tribune, Parade Magazine, The National Post (Canada), The San Jose Mercury News, and Lifetime Magazine. And she has been interviewed by television and radio stations including: ZipFM, (Japan), BBC radio, (United Kingdom), CBC Radio, (Canada), KBCO Radio (Colorado), KSFN Radio, (Washington & Nevada), KTLA TV, (Los Angeles, CA), CBS TV, (The Early Show), and KPIX TV, (Evening Magazine.)
